NIA - Chakra Dance - GuiDANCE
FUNctional fitness / body-mind integration / movement medicine
Kirstie calls what she does "movement medicine." She uses combinations of guided movement and free form movement to assist people in finding their way into sensation, and therefore back home to their body. The focus is on following pleasure, comfort, and ease (at first). And once a level of self-trust is reached within the self, she invites people to dance on their edge, to challenge, condition, strengthen, release & heal. In order to truly move past old, restrictive patterns and beliefs, we must MOVE our body to release the 'issues in our tissues.' Embodying the mental work we do in various forms of therapy and personal growth, is the key to transformation, because it brings the awareness, the affirmations, and the forgotten/buried memories into the light of consciousness where we can then feel them and finally let go of them - like literally shaking them out on the dance floor. She currently runs regular Nia classes, Chakradance, and GuiDANCE workshops.
Nia is a pleasure (not performance) based movement that blends fabulous music with sequences of grounded steps, stances and kicks that stimulate the muscles and the brain. It also incorporates mindfulness, free expression, sounding and emotional release, all in a non-judgemental, welcoming community. Again and again, science confirms that dancing makes you happy. Again and again, students of Nia confirm that dancing changes your life. If that possibility lights you up, then commit to yourself by coming to classes and deepening your practice. The 'magic' of Nia is no accident!
Nia is a barefoot workout for body, mind and soul. A cardio-dance fitness class that blends energizing, soul-stirring music with choreography that is easy to follow and designed to address the whole body. Moves are infused with the power and precision of the martial arts; expression and fun of the dance arts; and with mindfulness of healing arts. Nia is the original, non-impact approach to fitness that is easily adapted for each person. More than a workout, Nia’s holistic approach to health is designed to address the body, mind, emotions and spirit.
Chakradance - Rhythm for your Soul
CHAKRADANCE™ is a well-being movement practice. It uses spontaneous dance, to specific chakra-resonant music, for the purpose of healing and re-tuning your whole energy system, and a mandala art exercise for integration.
At the heart of Chakradance is the music. For all of us, the seven major chakras are the energetic gateways through which body, mind and spirit come together, literally embodying the soul.
On one level, Chakradance can be experienced as a joyful affirmation of who you truly are. Using spontaneous dance, meditation, a creative mandala exercise and your imagination, it leads to an awakening, a discovery of your true self. But at a deeper level, Chakradance is also about healing and balance. By surrendering to the music of each chakra, we dance from the inside out and find ourselves awakening and healing ancient hurts; expressing – often for the first time – long-blocked emotions; and opening ourselves up to levels of spiritual connection higher than we ever thought possible.
GuiDANCE - Surrender to your Senses
The 'issues in our tissues' is the doorway to true self-knowledge, self-mastery, and ultimately, freedom. By paying close attention to your senses - reading your environment through your nerve-endings - or as I like to say in a more romantic way, SURRENDER TO YOUR SENSES, you can drop the stories that keep you limited, and courageously embrace the DANCE of YOUR LIFE!
Kirstie leads you into yourSelf with music, movement, meditative visioning, art, and a healthy dose of intuition, to catalyze your personal growth to a much deeper, more visceral level. From this depth, the shifting "work" becomes so very simple. Within this group GuiDANCE experience, you will journey to parts of yourself using your imagination, and gather more insight about an area of your life that you choose to bring as your personal focus.
Influenced by spiritual teachers like, Elena Brower, and functional movement pioneers such as, Kathryn Bruni-Young, Natasha builds the foundation of her sequences on felt-sense awareness. Through kinesthetic, creative cueing, Natasha challenges both beginners and seasoned movers how to interact with strength and presence.
