Naturopath Birth Doula
Fertility support before, during, and after birth
What is a birth doula?
A birth doula acts as a support person throughout your pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. They are trained in techniques to help alleviate pain and offer mental and emotional support, with the aim of creating a positive birth experience while avoiding unnecessary intervention. Birth doulas are dedicated to eradicating fear and stress around birth while cultivating confidence and trust in the natural process.
My primary goal as a naturopathic birth doula is to make you feel empowered and supported in all your birth choices and to offer guidance and education to help you make informed decisions about your labour. Pregnancy and birth is a pearl of ancient wisdom, one your body is innately aware of, and I want to help you discover and trust that wisdom.
What does a birth doula do?
Birth doulas have several responsibilities throughout the pregnancy and birth, including preparing the mother and partner (if present) for the labour and supporting their birth plan, providing education and information so they may make informed decisions during labour, advocating for the mother during labour and facilitating communication between the mother and the medical care providers, and creating space for the partner to engage in the birth and offer support as they are wanting and able. Birth doulas can work with care providers at home or in hospitals.
Evidence shows that utilizing a birth doula is associated with:
Fewer complications and interventions
Shorter labour duration
Positive feelings towards the birth experience
Improved fetal birth outcomes
Improved maternal postpartum health
A naturopathic birth doula is able to offer support beyond conventional doula training because of our education in fetal and maternal health and our access to treatment modalities for perinatal concerns, including nutritional and lifestyle counselling, botanical medicine, acupuncture and acupressure, homeopathy, and hydrotherapy.
